The next photo of the month contest will be held soon. So get your camera's ready. Submissions can be sent to:

The theme for this contest is: seduction.
A great theme I think, with lots of possibilities.
But please, only fish photos not from yourselves! LOL

Photos can be submitted until February 10th, after which the voting will start.
Some members have requested to add EXIF information to your photo. You are free to do so, but it is not a requirement to enter the competition.

I had to send it by cellphone and have had some problems with pictures sent by cellphone before.

Yes, I have several (color red; fish details; females; whole aquarium; ...).

But I guess there will be more participants without a specific theme ... ?

Yeah! Good idea Dirk. I think more specific themes (not so abstract as "love") may take more folowing by the people.

Well, I didn't think it would be such a difficult theme. I was hoping to see some breeding stripes, fin flaring, .... rainbowfish do it all the time.

I noticed a red fish in my fishtank some days ago. That might be a theme I could serve with

The difficulty is, by adding a particular theme it's important to make sure the theme by itself is not to restrictive. This theme was not that difficut. I never manage to photograph bows flashing their racing stripes but the gudgeons were guaranteed to provide at least one good pictures. I had some other pictures from this session but chose this one since it did not require cropping.

@ Gunther, hope you get well soon. I was already worried my spam mails were the cause for the delay.

Personaly I have a rather small collection of fish and only 4 fish tanks of which 3 are occupied by PNG or australian fish/shrimp etc.

Sticking with photographing by theme would have my personal preference. How about 'portrait'.

So far I never managed a nice fish portrait so it would be a challenge for me personally

EDIT:: I would also be able to provide a picture if the topic would be 'small white thingies on the glass' or 'just chilling'

Hello Gunther,

Oh, may be I (and others?) was a little bit too restricted to myself with the topic "seduction". I have several photos of males displaying to each other but I thought it will not fit the topic ... (except they would be from the other side ... ) But I have nearly no photo of a male rainbowfish displaying directly to a female for seduction - except for T. ocellicauda, where the male stands over its breeding tube waiting for the female ...

Exactly my problem, Dirk!

When the males are seducing the females then they are always fast swimming and shaking. I never can take a good pict at that moment. When the males are displaying to each other, than it's easier.

I know it's too late so it 'll be just for fun.
Call it "Love in group"



"In group" or "schools" could be another theme Gunther.

Yes, you are right. It's not too difficult to find a situation of "love" in our aquariums, but taking a picture is different. May i didn't xpress correctly . I meant to that is easier to people find a "red thing" in the aquarium than to find a situation. Anyway the photocontest is very well done. But is better as more people participates.
