Interesting pictures of Telmatherinids in nature

Postby Christophe » Thu Dec 20, 2007 6:04 pm

Hi all,

See under this link some very interesting pictures of various Telmatherinids and other aquatic life in their natural environment, in this case Lake Towuti on Sulawesi.

This is the website of a German importer and wholesaler. I contacted him immediately but he only brought back shrimps, snails, and crabs..

He wrote that the shrimps need water with a pH over 8 to survive, presumably the same applies to the fishes.. which would make them quite difficult to keep in aquariums. Furthermore, Telmatherinids seem to be very delicate and susceptible to capture shock and don't travel well.

I am slowly but surely beginning to lose hope that we will ever see and keep these fishes in our tanks..

Here the link: http://www.mimbon-aquarium.de/indo2007.html

Cheers,

Hi there!

Well since the link is two years old, I'm not surprised :-)

Check the thread named "Good paper" in this section, it has a detailed checklist with location maps etc. for several Telmatherinids. This should help your friend a lot!

Cheers
