Re: Breeding Melanotaenia boesemani

The eggs are tiny. If you're used to seeing them, than it's not so difficult, but otherwise... You could remove the fish out of the tank, so they will not eat the hatching fry. Usually the fry swims at the surface, they are easy prey for the parents.

Re: Breeding Melanotaenia boesemani

Well, I think they spawn allright, but not in your mop. They'll probably use the plants, especially when you have a lot of plants. You could separate a few fish if you have another tank and put a couple of mops in it. They have no other options.

Re: Caught in Dutch waters!

I think they're boesemani's. It's really sad that people throw their fish away like that. They could spread diseases or disturb the fauna in these waters.

Caught in Dutch waters!

These fish were found in Dutch waters in a lake! Soon I can catch my own rainbows here in the Netherlands...

Re: Hypseleotris leuciscus

Thanks for the paper, Peter. I did find the study you did for Fishes of Sahul. Some good reading stuff.

I don't know where the fish from the pictures were caught. In- and exporters are always so mysterious about their fish. :(

For sure, cause they don't breed here and the eggs I do get are lost within a day of two (fungus). :(

Re: Melanotaenia maccullochi Skull Creek

Hello Marius,

I'm sorry to say that I don't have any offspring of these fish. Maybe there are IRG-members in Germany who have them?

Hypseleotris leuciscus

I got a phonecall from my LFS that they had some kind of Hypseleotris. They had bought is as compressa, but after seeing them it was sure that they weren't. We thought they could be H. leuciscus. Does anyone know for sure? http://www.pinkgrapefruit.net/hans/H_leuciscus/DSC_8481v3.jpg http://www.pink...

Re: Hans' 550 ltr tank

I've got three. They turned out to be 2 males and 1 female. There are no problems between the two males. They can hide at many places in the tank, but I never see them fight.

Re: Hans' 550 ltr tank

Thanks, Adrian. You keep on coming up with interesting stuff! :friends:

I might give it a try after reading this. Maybe I could raise them in green water and add extra infusoria. But first some eggs of course!

Re: 'Tranquility'

Those rainbows look very healthy. I like the setup of the tank. Some mysterious lighting and not too light. I think your fish are have a good time there!
